Guy Penrod Talks About Upcoming ‘Concert on the Couch’—A Father’s Day Celebration

If there has ever been a time America needed an opportunity to kick back and enjoy a great night of music and be reminded of God’s everlasting love, it is now! Guy Penrod, one of Gospel music’s most awarded and loved, is offering just that. On Father’s Day, June 21, 2020, Guy will present, Concert On The Couch—A Father’s Day Celebration, exclusively online. AFRONTROWVIEW.COM talked with Penrod to get the details.

The concert was recorded at the historic Franklin Theatre and airs at 6:00 pm Central time, but virtual doors open at 5:00. During the pre-show, Guy and his family will share Father’s Day greetings and exciting information regarding future ministries and events. “After this,” Guy shares, “the band and I will crank up at 6:00 pm and just get after it for a good solid hour. We’re going to worship Jesus country style cause that’s just the way we like to do it.”

Viewers can expect awesome chicken-pickin’ as Guy calls it, but also songs to boost faith. “We will sing some wonderful hymns people know, worship songs, music from probably four or five different records of ours, so it will be a real diverse musical night,” Guy explains. “We’ll do some songs from Breathe Deep—life music and some from the latest album, BLESSED ASSURANCE. We’ll do ‘Before the Throne,’ ‘I Surrender All,’ ‘You Reign,’ and ‘Trading My Sorrows,’ and more.”

Guy continues, “I love the song ‘Trading My Sorrows’ especially during this day and time because we can trade all that {negative} stuff in and claim the healing and victory Jesus bought us. I love the statement that we as the children of the Lord don’t fight FOR victory, we fight from a place OF victory! We’re going to encourage folks to do that and let them know how much they’re loved and valued by the Father.”

Victory in Christ is a theme we need to be reminded of being that the Pandemic created much fear. Guy addresses this mindset: “We’re going to be the ones to say… ‘He hasn’t given us a spirit of fear but love, power, and a sound mind!’ Ask what you will and it will be done in Jesus name! We believe in times like this, you advance—you push back the gates of hell. We have been commissioned by the Lord almighty and been given His power, the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead and dwelled in Him when He got up according to Ephesians 2. This same power dwells in us.”

These turbulent days have given everyone time to reflect on the things that matter most. Guy shares, “I think I’m more acutely aware of how quick things change. When you get into a status quo or into a routine, it is easy to consider life as an “business as usual” approach. I’ve done that and I think it is a good wake up call for us that this is a temporal situation for us here. Like my buddy Mark Lowry says, ‘Statistics show, one out of one die.’ If there is anything we’ve been confronted with during this pandemic it is our mortality. As heartbreaking as it is to lose loved ones, it’s a harsh reality that is appointed unto man once to die and then the judgement. I have been encouraged to not set up too deep of stakes here on the earth and realize that we are much less human beings who have spiritual experiences than we are spirit beings having a very temporary human experience. My wife and I and our family are trying to hold things a little more loosely and realize that we are just managers. And we do not want to waste any time when it comes to telling those we love about the powerful saving name of Jesus because no one has any guarantees on tomorrow.”

Penrod’s Concert on the Couch—A Father’s Day Celebration is a great opportunity to share Christ with others. “We encourage folks to invite a loved one or friend that doesn’t know the Lord to tune in to sit down and listen to the good news presented to them and know that they will have an opportunity to make Jesus Lord of their life. This is a great outreach opportunity. I consider music to be one of those things that brings the walls down and allows people to open up and receive.”

Access to the concert is easy. Visit guypenrod.com and then click on Concert on the Couch to reserve a viewing pass. There is a suggested minimum donation of $5.00, however if that is an issue during these days, Guy doesn’t want you to miss out. He encourages folks to come anyway! Give whatever you would like to give, and remember all donations are tax-deductible.

This night promises to be filled with great music and spiritual encouragement right in the comfort of home! Guy asks, “What better seat than on your couch?” He adds, “Crank up the stereo, put the 5.1 surround sound, turn on the big screen. Get ya some chips and dip and worship Jesus with us. We want to give you encouragement in the Lord. We want you to know how much He loves you. He’s for you. He’s with you, and we can definitely put our trust and our hope In Him and fearlessly engage the culture with love and grace. We find music is a wonderful way to open people up to the love of the Lord, and that’s what we’re going to do with this block of time so we would love for people to come.”

Don’t miss this! Again…Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21 at 6:00 pm Central, pre-show at 5:00. Reserve your viewing pass at guypenrod.com for a suggested minimum donation of $5.00.
